Essential Business Tax Deadlines for January 2026

January 2026 marks significant tax deadlines that businesses, employers, farmers, and fishermen can't afford to overlook. With proactive planning and attention to detail, you can maintain compliance and sidestep potential penalties.

January 15 - Employer’s Scheduled Deposit Deadline -

For employers adhering to monthly deposit regulations, January 15 is the critical deadline to remit your December 2025 contributions to Social Security, Medicare, and withheld income taxes. Additionally, nonpayroll withholding deposits for December 2025 are due if monthly rules apply. Remember, all employment tax deposits must be submitted electronically unless your deposit liability is under $2,500 for a return period, in which case quarterly or annual payment with the return is permissible.

January 15 - Farmers and Fishermen -

It's time to pay your 2025 estimated tax using Form 1040-ES. While your 2025 income tax return (Form 1040 or Form 1040-SR) is due by April 15, ensure your estimated tax is settled by January 15. Failing to do so will necessitate filing your 2025 return and covering any due taxes by March 2, 2026, to avoid an estimated tax penalty.
